Feature release

Amiga Imager v0.99.24

A multi-system card you can live with. The boot menu now always comes back, whatever the last system did; Boot Menu Prefs assigns and shares the card’s partitions from the Amiga itself; and Manage Amiga Software repairs a card that another updater has rewritten. Also new: RGB2RTG per system on a PiStorm.

  • The boot menu always comes back
  • Partitions assigned and shared in Boot Menu Prefs
  • Repair for a card's Kickstart choice
  • RGB2RTG as an Emu68 version per system

Feature release - macOS 14+, Apple Silicon and Intel. Build: 261029.

Everything in this release comes from testers running real multi-system cards for days. Thank you – above all to Dirk, whose 256 GB card found most of it.

The boot menu always comes back

  • The card gives its Kickstart back before a system starts. Picking a system with its own ROM used to leave the card on that ROM until the system itself undid it – and a system that did not boot never did, so the card stayed on it. Now the menu hands the card back to its own ROM first and only then starts the system. Hardware-tested on a PiStorm.
  • A broken Kickstart choice no longer stops the card. config.txt names the card’s own ROM as a fallback, so a damaged selection starts the card on its own ROM instead of not at all.
  • A system that did not come back is named in the menu, and the countdown stops instead of starting it again.
  • The menu sets up ENV:, so the HDMI monitor driver no longer asks for a volume called ENV on every start.

Boot Menu Prefs on the Amiga

  • Partitions page: every partition of the card, which system it belongs to, the name it runs under, which one a system starts from, and a new system from a free partition – without building the card again.
  • A partition in several systems. A shared data partition, or one you are emptying into another, can be mounted in several systems. Only one of them can start from it.
  • Up to 24 partitions per system (it was 8 – AGS alone brings 12), and Amiga Imager checks the limits before it builds a card.
  • Kickstart ROM and Emu68 per system; the Emu68 version is chosen from the ones on the card instead of typed.
  • Typed titles and names are kept when you click elsewhere – they used to need Return or Tab.
  • The window fits a PAL or NTSC Workbench, and the rescue shell’s editor starts.

Repair a card someone else has changed

A distribution’s own updater may rewrite the boot partition – AmiKit’s updates replace config.txt. The card then ignores the boot menu’s Kickstart choice. Manage Amiga Software now finds this and puts it right in place, without writing the card again, and it says so when the choice names a ROM file that is no longer on the card.

RGB2RTG per system (PiStorm)

RGB2RTG is an unofficial, experimental Emu68 version that shows the Amiga’s native screen on the Pi’s HDMI output. Choose your own download in Settings → PiStorm (a .zip, .lha or the unpacked folder), and give it to individual systems on a boot-menu card. Nothing of it is bundled, and no system uses it unless you choose it.

Also

  • Imported systems without a VideoCore driver get the card’s graphics with Adjust for this card.
  • The exchange partition can be set on the build screen too.
  • iComp ACA MapROM falls back to the normal soft-kick when it fails, instead of leaving the machine on its bare ROM.
  • The picowyfy wireless driver is installed with all of its files.
  • Dragging a file from the Disk Browser to the Finder delivers the file.
  • Bundles amipkg 0.7.11 and installs amiagent 0.13.1, both unchanged from 0.99.18.
